Killer bees threaten World Cup kick off

June 11th, 2010 by · No Comments · Armchair Fan, De Bunker, Features, Football

Well, at last, WCO gets to write about the actual World Cup, not the lot of speculative guff that has passed for comment over the last six weeks or more. It is clear that South Africa has gone quite, quite barmy. The opening ceremony like all major sporting event ceremonies was full of literal visual imagery, children and dodgy mass choreography. Roll on London 2012, with the rich visual imagery of Hackney brought to life. Scared? We should be.

South Africa stunned everyone with a giant dung beetle and the Arch Bishop of average degrees, Desmond 2-2, attending the opening ceremony. Some locals called it as big a day as when Nelson Mandela was released from Robben Island. Well, not sure we would go that far, but hey, your country, your World Cup.

It was when the first game kicked Nyt on vuorossa mobiilicasinoiden toinen sukupolvi. off the killer bees arrived. A vast, unseen swarm, hovered just out of camera shot. Not only did they remain, but they buzzed off to the second game of the day as well! WCO demand to know what FIFA are doing about this dangerous public safety issue.

Meanwhile, in the game itself, Tshabalala who moonlights in the band Kaizer Chiefs, whacked in a scorcher. The team then let the whole country down with quite the piss poorest goal celebration seen for a long time. Mexico then tore up the fairly tale rule book  and equalised.

Later, Uruguay played France. The killer bees were drowned out by the snores of the crowd. Domenech should face an trades description enquiry – football coach? Football coach our arse.

Tomorrow England take on the USA, USA , USA. All day drinking in the heat in the run up to an evening kick-off. Corking fan conditions. Mad Maradona takes on Nigeria and South Korea play Greece. Did we mention England are playing? Don Fab has completed his preparations and locked Heskey in a cupboard.

So that wraps up the first day of this most strange, beautiful and downright brilliant tournament.

Finally, a thank you to our lovely Twitter followers. Remember, you can comment here and direct message us here at the WCO bunker. More out of the ordinary chat tomorrow.
