Long Odds

July 1st, 2006 by · No Comments · Betting, Football

Although we have a mixed track record, what with backing Spain to reach the Quarter Finals and Togo to reach the second round, we can confidently predict that an England v. Germany final is a statistical possibility. Until 4.00 that is.

Not even the bookies can agree on the most likely winners. England, despite still being in it [until 4.00] have slipped from second favourites when the tournament began to 4th, due no doubt to their manner of play so far. Ladbrokes have Brazil [3-1] as favourites to nip past Germany [3.25-1] with Italy now distant 3rd favourites [5-1]. Paddy Power have it the other way around with Germany now their favourites [2-1] ahead of Brazil.

For lovers of long odds you can back France, who play Brazil next, at 10-1 or Portugal, who will also face Brazil [or France] and then Germany if they get past England today at 15-1.

Current Odds – Ladbrokes

Brazil 3.00

Germany 3.25

Italy 5.00

England 6.50

France 10.00

Portugal 15.00

Other interesting bets flying around include the top scorer for the tournament. All bookies have Klose for Poland, sorry Germany, as favourite to finish with the Golden Boot. Klose currently has 5 goals to Ronaldos and Podolskis 3, the only players in the top 10 still in the competition. For the extremely optimistic you can get 50-1 with most firms on Gerrard over taking them.

Leading Scorers

KLOSE Miroslav GER 5

RONALDO BRA 3

PODOLSKI Lukas GER 3

GERRARD Steven ENG 2

VIEIRA Patrick FRA 2

ADRIANO BRA 2

MANICHE POR 2

TONI Luca ITA 2

HENRY Thierry FRA 2

BECKHAM David ENG 1

For the lovers of esoteric wagers why not try the following for the England v. Portugal quarter final. 2-2 draw at full time at a whopping 14-1, England go through with any former West Ham player scoring [4-1], any Portuguese player booked for fouling Crouch [7-1], and England to lose on penalties with Beckham missing his penalty [21-1]. All with Ladbrokes.
