New kit

They announced at the same time that the kit would remain unchanged for the next two years. The new kit was worn for the first time in England?s two crucial World Cup qualifiers against Northern Ireland (March 26) and Azerbaijan (March 30).

And now the Science

According to Umbro PR wallahs the jersey fabric has been developed to ?closely mimic the feel of the players? skin, with ?Zonal Pods? placed in key hot spots around the upper body to allow ?enhanced levels of ventilation? and they go on excitedly to describe the use of ?hi-tech ?X-Static? silver fibres? which enable the ?Zonal Pods to regulate body temperature and aid moisture transfer, keeping players cool, dry and comfortable when the heat is on?.

Anyway it?s quite pretty, mostly in white as you?d expect with little patriotic details like the a gold star above the traditional Three Lions crest symbolizing the 1966 World Cup victory and an oddly pointy cross of St George on the shoulder. It also sports a natty holographic logo, guaranteeing its authenticity, in an attempt to stop all those nasty Far Eastern copies. Mind you as the real thing is produced in the same countries they may have their work cut out convincing the punters to pay up for the real thing.

The new kit also includes Teflon coated shorts which apparently helps prevent mud sticking to the surface of the shorts, which might interest Alex [squeaky bum] Ferguson. The white socks also contain ?X-Static fibre in the foot-bed to aid heat and moisture management?. Please make them stop?

WCO went shopping, so you don?t have to, and have found that although most retailers were offering the kit for around ?35 for the shirt, JD Sports are knocking them out for ?24.99. That?s for the big boy sizes, the children?s sizes come in at around ?20 so why not get a set for the whole family to wear on your next trip to Netto. You?ll be looking like a strong unit and you?ll be managing your collective moisture in style.
